The Institute for Design and Control of Mechatronical Systems has been created 2004 from the splitting of the former Institute of Automatic Control and Electrical Drives (the other two new Institutes being the Institute of Electronical Drives and Power Electronics and the Institute of Automatic Control and Control Systems Technology).

All these Institutes belong to the Department of Mechatronics, which was setup in Linz from 1989 on as a full study.

The Mechatronics study is a five year curriculum which was first started in 1990 as a combination and integration of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as well as Computer Science.

If you want to know more about the history of Mechatronics (and of the University of Linz) please view the PowerPointPresentation (German, 376 kB); © Prof. Weiss.
